Birthdays
See upcoming student birthdays and send personalized greeting cards on WhatsApp.
The Birthdays screen helps you track your students' birthdays for the current month in one place. It lets you see who is celebrating today, this week, or later this month so your institute never forgets a student's special day. With one tap, you can create a personalized birthday card with your institute's details and share it directly on WhatsApp.
Who can use it
- The institute owner.
- Staff members who have permission to view students. Staff can see birthdays for all students across the institute, not just their own batches.
- This feature is always on. You do not need to turn on any setting to use it.
- Students and parents cannot see this screen in their app.
How to open Birthdays
You can open the Birthdays screen from the home screen in three ways:
- On Home, tap the Birthdays tile under the Messages tools.
- If any student has a birthday today, tap the Birthdays item in what needs doing on Home.
- Tap the N birthdays today · Send wishes card on Home.

How to see upcoming birthdays
- Open the Birthdays screen.
- Students are grouped into three clear sections:
- Today (for birthdays happening today, for example Today · 2)
- This week (for birthdays in the next 7 days, for example This week · 4)
- Later this month (for birthdays remaining in the current calendar month, for example Later this month · 3)
- Each student row shows their name, the day of their birthday ("today", "tomorrow", or a date like "28 Oct"), and the age they turn (such as "turns 15").

- WhatsApp opens automatically with the greeting card and message ready to go.
- Tap the send button inside WhatsApp to deliver the wish.
- When you return to Tufee, the button on that row shows Wished.
(Note: If you use Tufee on a computer, clicking Wish saves the greeting card directly to your Downloads folder instead of opening WhatsApp.)

Tips
- Wish ahead of time: You do not have to wait for the exact day. You can tap Wish early on any student listed in the week or month list, such as when a birthday falls on a Sunday or holiday.
- Check WhatsApp numbers: If you do not see a Wish button next to a student, make sure you have added their WhatsApp mobile number in their profile.
- Image or PDF format: The generated birthday card follows your institute document setting (picture or PDF).
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no "Wish" button next to a student?
The student does not have a WhatsApp number saved in their profile. Open their profile, add their WhatsApp number, and save. The Wish button will then appear.
Why is a student missing from the birthday list?
The student has no date of birth entered in their profile. Edit the student's profile to add their birth date. If no students have birthdays recorded, the screen displays: "No birthdays this week. Add birth dates to students to see them here."
Why can I not see birthdays for early next month?
The screen only lists birthdays for the current calendar month. Birthdays falling in the first days of next month will appear as soon as that new month starts.
Does Tufee send the WhatsApp wish automatically?
No. Tapping Wish opens WhatsApp on your device with the message and card attached. You review it and press send yourself. Only the student app notification goes out automatically.
Can I view birthdays without an internet connection?
Yes. You can view the list of birthdays offline. However, your device must be connected to the internet to generate the birthday card image or PDF.
Why do I see a student who has already left?
The birthday list shows all students, including inactive students who have left. In contrast, the birthday count shown on the Home screen only counts currently active students.
Good to know
- "Wished" status is temporary: The Wished mark is only kept in memory while the screen stays open. If you close or leave the screen and return later, the button will show Wish again.
- One card at a time: The app creates one greeting card at a time. Tapping Wish on another student while Making card… is displayed will not do anything until the first card finishes.
- Automatic student app alert: Students who installed the student app receive an automated "🎂 Happy Birthday!" notification at 8:00 AM (India time) on their birthday.
- Leap year birthdays: For students born on 29 February, their birthday appears on 28 February in non-leap years.
- No bulk wishing or automatic SMS: Tufee does not send automatic background WhatsApp messages or SMS, and there is no "wish everyone" button. Wishes must be sent one student at a time.
- No staff birthdays: This screen only tracks student birthdays. Staff birthdays are not included.
- Current month only: The screen never shows dates beyond the end of the current month.
